How can I protect my oral health?

To protect your oral health, practice good oral hygiene daily:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day for two to three minutes. Use a soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste.
  • Floss and/or use interdental brushes daily (your hygienist or dentist will show you the right technique).
  • Eat healthy and limit sugary food and drinks.
  • Replace your toothbrush every three months.
  • Schedule regular dental checkups and cleanings at least every 6 months.

What is periodontal disease (periodontitis)?

Periodontitis is a global health issue. A study performed in the USA shows (1) that:

  • 47.2% of adults over 30 years old; and
  • 70.1% of adults over 65 years old suffer from periodontal diseases.

How can periodontal diseases be treated and prevented?

Most periodontal diseases can be prevented with good oral hygiene. Regular professional cleaning and following oral hygiene instructions from your dentist and/or hygienist will help you maintaining good oral hygiene.

Once the disease is diagnosed accurately, it can be treated depending on its severity and type. Procedures range from non-surgical (deep cleaning, root planning and deep scaling) to surgical (minimally invasive laser treatments or open flap surgery).

At Amaryllis Dental Clinic we offer the most advanced and patient-friendly protocols to treat periodontal diseases.
