Orthodontics is a dental specialty that addresses the diagnosis, prevention, management, and correction of mal-positioned teeth and jaws, and misaligned bite patterns. It may also address the modification of facial growth, known as dentofacial orthopedics.
There are different ways to move teeth within the jaw: Traditional braces (with metal or white ceramic brackets) or Aligners (transparent trays, for example Invisalign®).
Both techniques have advantages and disadvantages that can be discussed with your dentist at Amaryllis Dental Clinic.
We use all orthodontic techniques in order to address your functional and aesthetic problems. Sometimes it’s beneficial to combine them with other procedures like composite bonding or veneers and crowns.
Generally, if the problem is only a wrong position of the tooth, orthodontics is the way to go forward. If teeth are also worn down or have other problems, we need other procedures to rebuild the tooth.
An important fact about tooth movement is that at the end of the treatment, we need to stabilise the new position with the help of retainers. We differentiate here between fixed retainers and removable ones.
Thanks to digital dentistry we have tools to simulate a possible treatment outcome before starting the process .
